“…five Debussy preludes unfolded in tasteful, idiomatic fashion. Les collines d’Anacapri was judged to a “T”: lithe, animatedly dancing, with finely sprung rhythmic snap… La Serenade Interrompue had a fine, grotesque swagger and La cathedrale engloutie’s buildup benefited from Ms. Yefimova’s decision to double the tempo as we hear in Debussy’s own performance.
Ms. Yefimova also did admirably with Ravel Miroirs. Oiseux tristes was cleancut and poignant. Une Barque sur l’Ocean conveyed requisite motion and liquid sense of shimmer, and Alborada del Gracioso had a goodly modicum of vitality and rhythmic swagger.
After intermission Ms. Yefimova contributed a solid account of Chopin’s Sonata No.3 in B minor, op.58…”
